This book made me grin (and actually laugh out loud) as well as made me shed tears! The two main characters (hunky Ravi and marvelously flirty Cayenne) are so well-written that their simultaneous dances of attraction and distrust really engaged me, and the magical nature of the setting contributed to the amazing story that sucked me in completely! The author, Fox Beckman, proceeds to tell a very human story of (potential) love and (potential) betrayal, with characters arcing through (potential) great personal growth. I don’t want to spoil anyone’s ride through this deliciously spicy romance, so I won’t go into details. I am really looking forward to the next leg of the romantic journey of Ravi and Cayenne — and I am impatient to learn more of the other characters on Ravi’s monster-hunting team. They have been teasingly shown, but not yet fully revealed. We’ve been introduced to more of Constance than Ravi’s other teammates — and I want to know even more about Constance and her delightfully sarcastic feline familiar, Griswold! I am anticipating that the rest of his team each have equally interesting and quirky stories to be told.Beckman is skilled at making readers assume responsibility for their own understanding of the story. By that, I mean there are no lengthy explanations about how magic works in this world (which really doesn’t seem very different from ours, except for the whole magic thing . . .). The author assumes our intelligence and that we’ll be able to put pieces together and follow the breadcrumbs. I (as an intelligent reader) really appreciate this technique, which actually works to engage the reader more.Stolen from Tomorrow has a deliciously witty, sexy and emotional people-centered story at the heart, with magic an important supporting character. I heartily and unreservedly recommend this book — and immediately want to read the sequel!
