This was a solid book and I liked it well enough but it took me too long to get into the plot, and to grow fond of the characters, for me to give it more than a middle rating. The plot was interesting but I felt it could have delved into the history of the gods more throughout the story instead of just the last portion of the book and it would have been more interesting. As for the representation though, I really like how Nortan handled Prome’s discovery of his feelings for boys. Though, I did find it immensely frustrating how Prome’s own frustration for his feelings for Garbos, instead of the ones for Malia that he believes to be expected of him, transformed into a mistrust of him. I was torn between “this isn’t realistic!” and “oh, Prome, you poor sweet unsure thing.” Which, to be fair, might be the most realistic thing about the book in the end. Because falling for someone, especially when you think you’re not supposed to, is complicated and makes yours emotions go haywire. So I really did feel for Prome in that regard. In the end, though, I felt that Prome had more chemistry in the short time with Pyrias than he did with either Malia or Garbos and I was left wanting to know more about that relationship than anything else.
