What a joy! I adore Rien Gray’s writing and was so excited to get my hands on their book. My expectations did not disappoint.Gray moves with ease between Justine and Campbell’s voices, perpetually building tension chapter to chapter as the reader watches the two fall into an intoxicating set of circumstances. The writing is beautiful, but never slows down or drags its feet to dwell. The story moves at a fast clip, and you’re on board for the pace once you’re invested in Justine and Campbell’s story, which is to say, immediately.I specifically want to note that the use of Campbell’s pronouns feels effortless and natural. It warms my heart and makes me so proud to see a non-binary character in published writing, especially when they’re as cool as Campbell. I fell hard and fast for them, and even now, after finishing the book, I can’t tell if I want to -be- them or be -with- them.If you love passionate queer romance with high-stakes, dry-wit humor, and amazing sex, please give “Love Kills Twice” a try.Instead of listing every detail I loved and the reasons why you should too, I’ll let my favorite quote speak for itself;“The closer I am to a fantasy, the less likely Justine is to get attached.
