Really good thrill-seeker story about getting more than what you paid for. Interesting start, with the Prologue setting up all the explanations we’d need to understand how the ‘ghost room’ works, the ins and outs of it, and what the purpose and risks are. A nice way to handle it, by showing the sale of the room, rather than just telling us. Bryant and Clarence were great characters with a really nice, established couple, chemistry. They were an inter-racial couple who had to deal with Bryan’s racist and ignorant relatives, but who did so with a lightness that said they loved each other too much to let idiotic family members to get between them. I love how they supported each other, through thick and thin, though I kind of wish Bryant had cottoned on to the fact that the only reason Clarence could harm the ghost, Amy, was because he attacked out of love and the self-sacrifice of protecting another. I really wanted to see that part. Bryant’s relatives – Betty Anne and Mark – were two of the most horrendous people I’ve ever read. And, sadly, remind me of an aunt and uncle I won’t mention. The big about their Samoyed made me want to hit someone. They’re well written evil, classist, racist, hoity toity, too-rich-for-their-own-good, heads up their asses, characters. I do feel that the ending was a little too abrupt. I wanted to see some ghost-buster stuff from the company or at least some resolution that said Amy had been taken care of, because that wasn’t answered. But, I do like the Epilogue and how it added a little something nice to an otherwise adrenaline rush, heart pounding, fear factor, edge-of-the-seat, story, with just the right amount of gore and terror.Favourite Quote“Even a possible soul-sucking demon thought Bryant’s brother-in-law was a total dick.”
